I played college football. Actually, I was on the team, but I rarely played. I jokingly said I was on the run-out-the-clock team, meaning I went into the game with minutes to spare so the starters wouldn’t get hurt during garbage time. But that’s not the story.
As a kid, I wanted to be a quarterback, running back, or wide receiver. I admired the great playmakers from the 1970s and wanted to add my name to the list. However, I played offensive line in high school, far from the limelight. When I arrived at USD, I told the coach I wanted to play receiver. It was a steep learning curve and an incredible experience; I have no regrets. I don’t sit at home wondering what would have happened if I played college football because I did it.
If you have a dream, pursue it, don’t delay. Don’t leave anything on the table. Samuel Becket said, “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”
I can do all things through him who strengthens me. ~ Philippians 4:13
